In this article, we will go over sending a flipper Case to the 3Shape Design Service Platform for design.
In dentistry, a flipper is a temporary removable partial denture used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is made from acrylic material and features one or more prosthetic teeth attached to it. Flippers are commonly used as a temporary solution while waiting for more permanent treatments, such as a dental implant or fixed bridge, to be completed.
They help maintain the appearance of a full smile and prevent other teeth from shifting into the space left by the missing tooth or teeth. Flippers are relatively inexpensive and lightweight, but since they're not as durable or secure as permanent options, they are intended for short-term use.

Note: There are 3 kinds of partials we can design based on the material.
Acrylic base - Designed by the denture team.
Metal or Flexible base - Designed by the RPD team (Different Order Set Up).
Case Creation and Submission
The order is created by the customer using 3Shape Dental System.

We can design in Dental System Version: 2022 - 2023
The reason we do not design partial dentures in versions of the 3Shape Dental System prior to 2022 is primarily due to issues and errors we encountered with design functionalities in these earlier versions. Specifically, we faced challenges with design accuracy, such as problems with bridging and fit. These issues affected the overall quality and reliability of the partial dentures produced.
With the release of newer versions from 2022 onward, 3Shape addressed these concerns by introducing enhanced design features and improvements. These updates resolved the previous problems, providing more reliable and accurate results for partial denture designs. As a result, we have shifted to using the latest versions to ensure the highest quality and precision in our designs.
Important!
- For every partial replacing a single tooth, the gingiva option needs to be set up as a base with designed teeth.
- A single tooth cannot be connected to the rest of the replacing teeth.
- All the adjacent teeth to be replaced must be bridged.
- Each tooth selected in the order is going to be replaced in the design, if the tooth is in the scan it will be removed by default.
Note: You must include the correct material in your order setup or the case will be placed on HOLD.

(If you want to use other material than the FCDC material we have to test it first. Also, for the replacement of one tooth, the gingiva type in the order must be "Base with designed teeth").
