1. Download the Finished Design File from DSP and Import It into the Dental System

   • Access the 3Shape Design Services Platform (DSP) and download the completed temporary design file.
   • Open 3Shape Dental System and import the downloaded file.

2. Export the STL File of the Scan Merged with the Model as a Pre-Op Reference

   • In the 3Shape Dental System, go to the "Tools" menu and select the option to merge the scanned data with the model.
   • Once the scan is merged with the model, export the file as an STL. This allows you to use it as a pre-operative reference for the final design.
   • Save this file in a location where it can be easily accessed and imported into the new order as a pre-op scan.

3. Create a New Order or Duplicate the Existing Order

   • Option 1: Create a New Order: Start a fresh order in 3Shape for the final restoration, ensuring you maintain the same patient information and reference the temporary design.
   • Option 2: Duplicate the Existing Order: If you prefer to use the previous order as a base, duplicate the temporary design order and rename it to indicate that it’s for the final restoration.

4. Update the Order Form

   • Restoration Type: Change the restoration type from the temporary design (e.g., provisional) to the final restoration (e.g., crown, bridge, or implant restoration).
   • Material: Update the material from temporary (e.g., PMMA) to a final material (e.g., zirconia, porcelain, or lithium disilicate), depending on the patient’s needs.

To merge a design with the model in 3Shape, follow these steps:

1. Open the Case in the 3Shape Dental System

   • Launch 3Shape Dental System and navigate to the patient's case that contains the design and the scan of the model.

2. Go to the ‘Tools’ Section

   • Once the case is open, locate and click on the "Tools" menu in the design interface.

3. Select the ‘Align Scans’ Option

   • In the Tools menu, find and select the Align Scans or Merge Scans option. This function allows you to merge different scans, such as a pre-op scan or the model, with the current design.

4. Choose the Scans to Merge

   • Select the relevant scans to merge. Choose the temporary or pre-op scan and the model scan from the available options.

5. Align the Scans

   • Manually align the two scans by selecting common points on both the model scan and the design scan. The software may also assist with automatic alignment, but ensure the scans are accurately aligned to avoid discrepancies.

6. Confirm the Alignment

   • Once aligned, confirm the merging process. The two scans will now be merged into one file, combining the design with the model.

7. Save and Export

   • After merging, save the merged design. You can then export the file as an STL or other supported format for use in the final design process.

Steps to Import a Pre-Op Scan into a New Order in 3Shape Dental System

To import a pre-op scan into a new order in 3Shape, follow these steps:

1. Create a New Order

   • Open 3Shape Dental System and create a new order for the patient. Fill in the necessary information, such as tooth number, restoration type, and material selection.

2. Go to the 'Order Setup' Tab

   • In the new order window, navigate to the Order Setup tab where you can manage and configure additional files or scans.

3. Enable Pre-Op Scan Option

   • Look for the checkbox or option to add a Pre-Op Scan (this is sometimes labeled as "Pre-preparation scan" or "Pre-operative scan"). Ensure that this option is enabled.

4. Import the Pre-Op Scan File

   • Once the pre-op scan option is enabled, click on the Import Scan button.
   • Browse your computer to locate the pre-op scan file (typically saved in STL format). Select the pre-op scan that you exported from the temporary case.

5. Align the Pre-Op Scan (if necessary)

   • After importing the pre-op scan, the system may prompt you to align it with the new model or scan. If needed, follow the prompts to align the scans manually by selecting corresponding landmarks, or use the automatic alignment feature.

6. Confirm and Proceed

   • Once the pre-op scan is imported and aligned, confirm the setup. The pre-op scan will now appear in the new order as a reference for the final design.

7. Proceed with the Design Process

   • Continue with the design process for the final restoration, using the pre-op scan as a reference for the new case.
