In this article, we will go over printer settings, offset values & other suggested settings for Splints
We know sometimes there are questions and concerns around fit settings in reference to Splint/Nightguard designs. It is very important to know and understand your offset values based on your internal manufacturing process PRIOR to sending a case so that we can provide you with an accurate fitting Splint/Nightguard design.
What settings work for your printer?
In order to assist you in this process, we have come up with a solution to use so that you can become familiar with your offset settings. We have provided 6 Sample Offsets Splint STL’s that you will want to print with either the hollow or solid model that is provided to ensure your Splints don't have fit issues, making sure that they are printed horizontally.
Once your value has been established, inform the 3Shape Design Service Support Team to update your custom preferences. Support Email: designservices@3shape.com

- We have provided images of the offset values to show customers the distance between the model scan and the Splint
2. Sample Model STLs (attached at the bottom of the article)
-
- We have provided two model options, a hollow and a solid model STL that you will use to fit check your Splint

- We have provided 6 sample STL’s, all named and tagged with the offset value
What is Offset Value?
The offset value is the distance between the model scan and the Splint or Nightguard. This value determines the overall fit setting with a smaller number being a tighter fit and a larger number being a looser fit.
Why isn’t my splint fitting the model?
Many different factors can play a role in understanding the internal fit. Most of the time you should be able to reach out to your printer manufacturer to gather the values related to the particular material you will be using to manufacture your splints, however, these values can vary from printer to printer depending on weather, location, nesting techniques, and post-processing strategies.
