When an order with model builder elements is sent to automate, there are a few specific changes from the workflow with a regular order:
1. The order models option will show up after the case is designed:
Please note this option will only grab the scans from this case and send it as a separate case to generate solid and simple Automate models, which will need to be reviewed and downloaded separately, this models will not be able to be imported back into the Dental System, they will just provide a downloadable STL file of the solid model.
2. The "accept as IS" option will be grayed out:
This is intended, as the order has models in it, it will need to be imported and designed in the dental system, and then the CAM files will need to be generated, so automate will prevent accepting it as is, so that there are no duplicate files being generated.
Important:
Automate can generate a model, but it only creates a solid model. It cannot generate a model and a separate die at the same time within Automate. While crown restorations can generate a die, models created directly in Automate do not include die generation functionality.
However, customers who use Dental Manager can enable the Model Builder Elements option.
This allows customers to submit the order with both the crown and the model. Once the case is ready, they can accept the Automate crown case for editing and import it back into their Dental System workflow. From there, they can use their local tools to generate the model with dies or any additional model elements they may need.
To clarify, the models generated directly by Automate are solid models only and do not include removable dies.
3. Error when importing and trying to generate the model:
If, after importing the case, you select the "build model" option, you will get an error message:
To avoid this error, approach the workflow like this:
- Set up the order as per usual.
- Open "design", mark margins, and save/close.
- Send to Automate.
- Once the case is designed, make sure to approve it first. After that, you’ll be able to open Model Builder and proceed with the model design.
This way, you can control the workflow and already have the model designed. This will also eliminate the concern about this error. It's essentially the same thing but doing the model while the crown is being designed via Automate.
This workflow is even more efficient as well because you don't have to wait for the crown to be designed to start the model, and you can also ensure margin accuracy.
