In this article, we will go over what is needed to send an RPD case to us for design.
There are two different ways in which you can send your case for design:
1. The customer only submits the Raw STLs (Upper, Lower, and Bite); the files must be placed into a compressed zip folder. 3Shape Design Service will create the order using the 3Shape Dental System on the customer's behalf.
2. The order is created by the customer using the 3Shape Dental System. We can design in 3Shape Dental System Versions 2021 to 2024.
Order Set Up Example:
The case is set for RPD both in the upper and lower arch.
The difference is that in the upper arch, we can make an RPD including the palatal area, while in the lower arch, it is not possible because the tongue is present.
Steps for uploading your case to the Platform:
1. Once your order is set up and the case has been created, click the 'Upload to 3Shape Design Service' button.
2. The 3Shape Design Service Extension will redirect you to the Design Services portal, where you can log in. ( https://design.3shape.com/signin )
Or if you are sending only the STL files, drag and drop or browse the .zip file into the platform.
Provide the additional information needed on the 3Shape Design Service Portal:
•Name: Enter the name of the patient or pan/chart number in the name field.
•Turnaround time: It will be predefined to 24 hours.
•Additional Case Comments: You will need to fill in instructions that aren’t covered in the design guide selections.
•Require Design Approval: If you are using a third-party manufacturing option, please check this box if you want to review and approve the files before they are sent to the manufacturer.
Case Instructions:
•Design Type: Select "RPD".
•Arches: Click on the "Arches" button to select upper, lower, or both.
•Design Guide Codes: Since we have design centers across the globe, typed instructions don’t always translate to what you are looking for. Our goal is to give you back your orders correctly the first time, so we created what we call design guide codes.
•Destination: Select the manufacturing destination.
Send the case for Design:
Click on the blue paper airplane to submit case by case, or click on "Send All Cases" to send several cases for design at the same time.
Once all steps have been completed, you are ready to send. Just click on the blue paper airplane to submit case by case, or click on "Send All Cases" to send several cases for design at the same time.
Once the case design is complete, it will be returned to you for review, with all files available for you to download.
What is a 'texture' scan?
A pencil drawing is performed directly on the cast (NEVER use a Sharpie-type marker). As a reminder, it should include the following:
Major connector type,
Mesh retention area,
Post-type retention if required
Guide the plane's position,
Rests position,
Different clasps,
Tissue stops, etc…
